Can you sell CHEP or PECO pallets?

No. CHEP says it never sells or relinquishes ownership of its blue pallets, and PECO says its red pallets may not be bought, sold, exchanged, modified or destroyed. Holding them doesn't transfer ownership. California, Florida and Arizona also restrict recyclers from buying marked pallets without the owner's authority or records.

What the owners say

  • CHEP: owns its pallets and 'never sells or otherwise relinquishes ownership of them' (CHEP).
  • PECO: rents rather than sells, keeps ownership at all times; the pallets 'may not be bought, sold, exchanged, modified, or destroyed' (PECO).

Return them for free, and in PECO's case possibly for a recovery payment set by PECO. For your own whitewood pallets, a reuse company may pay or collect at no charge; see reuse.
