Whitewood pallet

An unpainted wood pallet that is bought, not rented, as opposed to a coloured pooled pallet.

'Whitewood' is the trade name for ordinary unpainted wooden pallets that change hands with the goods they carry, as opposed to painted pooled pallets that stay the pooler's property. Most one-way pallets are whitewood.

The distinction drives everything at end of life. A whitewood pallet that arrives with goods you bought is normally yours to reuse, sell, recycle or dispose of, and it becomes your scope 3 category 5 waste if you discard it. A pooled pallet goes back to its owner and isn't your waste.

The Pallet Fate Report asks for your pooled share so it can remove those pallets from the wood tonnage. If you're not sure which you have, see pooled vs one-way.

Whitewood pallets are also the ones a reuse company can usually take, since nobody else has a claim on them.
