Roll-off container
A large open-top container that a truck rolls on and off, used for bulky waste.
A roll-off is a large open-top container delivered and collected by a truck that rolls it on and off a frame. Construction sites and large facilities use them for bulky waste.
Pallets fill roll-offs quickly and are one of the easiest items to take out of them. Every pallet removed means fewer pulls. On construction sites, many suppliers will take their pallets back; see construction sites.
In North Carolina, putting non-construction pallets in a roll-off headed for a landfill can run against state law, because NC DEQ says pallets from industries other than building construction are not allowed in any landfill.
A pallet corral beside the roll-off, emptied by a reuse pickup, is a cheap way to keep pallets out. On sites where several trades share one container, a sign at the container and a word at the site meeting do most of the work.
